The Writer/Mother

“I’m a better writer and certainly a better person because I am a mother,” says author, Lisa Unger. “My best times for writing and creativity are between 5 am to noon. Afternoons are devoted to my daughter when she returns home from school.”
The role of mother and writer is a taxing one for those of us who have chosen to give ourselves to the two paths of writing and mothering in whatever order they came to us. For Lisa Unger, who has penned 8 literary thrillers, nothing has rivaled her commitment and love of writing, more than her love and adoration for her daughter.
With her latest thriller, “Fragile,” set to hit stands in 2010, Lisa says, “The Internet plays a huge role for me to connect with readers and remain connected with my fan base. It’s been a read blessing to the publishing industry, and for me as a mother.”
And yet like most of us working mothers, Lisa struggles with maintaining balance between her two loves. “When I’m writing I want to be with my daughter. When I’m spending time with my daughter I feel that I need to be writing.”
